He was as they all knew a convinced carnivore and he had no intention of giving up chops whether with or without the accompaniment of tomato sauce. But between the consumption on the one hand of meat or vegetables which had been humanely slaughtered and on the other the barbarous habit of eating the raw flesh of live fruit there was an impassable gulf. The latter practice was no better than cannibalism in its worst form. In conclusion he moved a resolution in favour of the establishment of a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Vegetables
